Klay Thompson’s decision to join the Dallas Mavericks this offseason was largely influenced by Mavericks star Kyrie Irving. Early reports from the team’s training camp suggest that the two players are developing excellent chemistry.
According to Grant Afseth’s “Dallas Hoops Journal,” several members of the Mavericks organization have been impressed with how smoothly Thompson and Irving have integrated into the team’s system. The pair has shown mutual respect and a clear understanding of the game, which is evident in their interactions during practice.
Head coach Jason Kidd also praised the duo, noting that their chemistry has been at a high level throughout the training camp. “They understand what it takes to win and what we’re trying to accomplish,” Kidd said. He emphasized Thompson’s spacing and shooting ability, along with Irving’s versatility both on and off the ball.
Their connection was on display in the Mavericks’ preseason game against the Utah Jazz. Thompson contributed 10 points and three assists in just 18 minutes.
Thompson’s move to Dallas marked the end of his storied tenure with the Golden State Warriors. After 13 years with the team, he has embraced the new opportunity in Dallas, where he is expected to play a key role alongside Irving and Luka Doncic.
