The Dallas Mavericks have re-signed forward AJ Lawson to a two-way NBA contract. This decision comes as the team looks to bolster its roster ahead of the upcoming season.
NBA insider Shams Charania broke the news on X, stating, “The Dallas Mavericks are bringing back F AJ Lawson on a two-way NBA contract, sources tell ESPN.” Lawson played 42 games for the Mavericks last season and averaged 18.4 points and five rebounds during his time with Dallas’ summer league team.
Lawson first joined the Mavericks on December 26, 2022, signing a two-way contract. He split his time between the NBA and the Mavericks’ G League affiliate, the Texas Legends. His strong performance during the G League season helped him secure a role with the NBA team.
On March 4, 2024, Lawson’s two-way contract was converted to a standard NBA contract. He contributed to the Mavericks’ playoff run, reaching the 2024 NBA Finals.
After the season concluded, Lawson was waived by the Mavericks on October 8. However, just two days later, he signed another two-way contract with the team.
Last season, Lawson averaged 3.2 points and 1.2 rebounds in 7.4 minutes per game for Dallas.
