Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert expressed excitement about playing alongside new teammate Julius Randle, following the team’s acquisition of the All-Star forward from the New York Knicks. The trade, which sent Karl-Anthony Towns to New York, has reshaped Minnesota’s frontcourt, pairing Gobert with one of the league’s top scorers.
“He’s a very smart player. He’s very versatile,” Gobert said of Randle during an interview with Mark Medina of Sportskeeda. Gobert noted that Randle’s skill set makes him a valuable addition to the team.
Gobert highlighted his own role in helping Randle thrive on the court. “I think that I’m going to be able to help him with my screening, with my spacing and my gravity,” Gobert explained. He added that his presence should create more opportunities for Randle, making his life “even easier” by freeing him up for easy baskets.
Gobert praised Randle’s decision-making, especially in situations where the defense collapses. “He’s good at kicking out, and when the big helps, he’s good at finding his bigs,” Gobert said. His ability to read the floor and make the right play is a key reason why Gobert believes they will form a strong partnership.
Randle comes to Minnesota after a standout season with the Knicks, where he averaged 24 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 5 assists per game. His performance earned him his third All-Star selection. The forward’s versatility, combined with Gobert’s defensive presence, could make the Timberwolves a more dynamic team in the upcoming season.
Gobert is aware that it will take time to build chemistry with his new frontcourt partner. “We’ve got a lot of games to get used to making mistakes and learn how to maximize him for us as a team,” Gobert remarked. He emphasized that the learning process will be essential as they adjust to each other’s playing styles.
