Here’s New York Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau on trading for 4x NBA All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns.

(via SNY):

Discusses departure of Julius Randle & Donte DiVincenzo/addition of KAT: “Julius [Randle] & Donte [DiVincenzo] added a lot to our team. We had a need obviously at the center position, so that was really a driving force behind it. But we certainly appreciated everything both of those guys did for us. It’s a tough decision to make, but we felt it was one that we had to make, and now, we’re excited to have KAT. I think to be able to get a player of his stature was huge, but you don’t get a player like that without giving good players up. And so, that’s what we had to do. But, we’re excited about the team that we have.”

On Towns’ ability to stretch the floor as a center: “I think you’re seeing that that’s the way of our league now. You see in the skillset of all the players most teams have one big, they can play away from the basket and it opens up the floor, so you’re playing five-out. But to have a guy who can not only shoot the three, but can also put it on the floor and also play back to the basket, he does it all. He’s a very difficult guy to switch against, because you can take a small into the post.”
