After Rajon Rondo got married this summer, his first NBA coach, Doc Rivers, was one of the attendees, Baxter Holmes of ESPN writes. Their long-standing bond remains strong, with Rivers now encouraging Rondo to transition into coaching, a new chapter that Rondo is fully embracing this season.

Rondo has taken his first steps into the coaching world, currently serving as a guest coach for the Milwaukee Bucks during their training camp. According to Holmes, Rondo’s role with the Bucks will extend through the rest of the season, although the specifics of his position remain unclear.

While working with the Bucks, Rondo has expressed his strong desire to eventually become a head coach. He’s enthusiastic about the future, saying he “absolutely” hopes to lead a team someday.

“There’s a lot of factors that go into coaching,” Rondo said. “You just can’t say, I’m going to be a coach, and then everything works out and that’s how it happens.

“So certain personalities have to mesh, [and there’s] a lot of sacrifice. There are certain things that I’m learning. The morning meetings, the amount of hours you’re spending watching film, it’s a lot.”

Although Rondo declined to comment on whether he received offers from other teams, reports from June indicated that he was a highly sought-after candidate to join JJ Redick’s staff.
