Oklahoma City Thunder general manager Sam Presti recently spoke about Alex Caruso’s upcoming contract extension.
Caruso’s current deal with the Thunder expires at the end of the 2024-25 NBA season.
“We can’t have that conversation until December,” Presti stated when asked about the timeline for Caruso’s extension, via Ryan Stiles.
Presti acknowledged the importance of Caruso to the team, noting that the Thunder are eager to discuss keeping him long-term.
“When we can, we will [have that conversation],” Presti added, making it clear that the team values Caruso.
He emphasized that Caruso has proven enough to warrant Oklahoma City’s interest in securing him for years to come.
Caruso joined the Thunder on June 21, 2024, in a trade with the Chicago Bulls for Josh Giddey.
During his time with the Chicago Bulls, Caruso earned his first NBA All-Defensive First Team selection at the end of the 2022-23 season.
Presti highlighted Caruso’s impact, stating, “We know enough to want to have him here for a really long time.”
The Thunder view Caruso as a crucial piece in their efforts to build a championship contender.
Presti’s comments indicate that the Thunder are committed to keeping Caruso as part of their long-term plans.
Caruso, who was undrafted out of Texas A&M, has built a reputation as one of the league’s top defensive guards.
His ability to guard multiple positions and disrupt opposing offenses has made him a fan favorite throughout his career.
