Evan Fournier has transitioned from the NBA to EuroLeague powerhouse Olympiacos this offseason.
The French guard concluded last season with the Detroit Pistons, who had the worst record in the league.
Fournier’s time in the NBA was marked by limited playing time, especially during his stint with the New York Knicks, where he played just 30 games in two seasons.
He was traded to the Pistons at the trade deadline, giving him another chance to play, but the experience was challenging.
Joining Olympiacos, a club he has long admired, has reinvigorated Fournier’s passion for basketball.
His recent participation with the French national team in the 2024 Paris Olympics, where they secured a silver medal, also contributed to his excitement.
“It’s like every planet has aligned for me to come here,” Fournier said in an interview with Eurohoops.
He expressed a deep connection to Olympiacos, stating, “Sometimes there are things you can’t explain. It’s like when you find your wife – you can’t explain.”
Fournier added, “I’ve always looked at Olympiacos like a club that means something to me. I don’t know why.”
His move from Detroit to Olympiacos has revitalized his career and provided him with a new sense of purpose.
“Going from Detroit to the Olympics gave me life. I want to continue like this,” he emphasized, reflecting on his journey.
Fournier’s candid thoughts shed light on the challenges of playing for a losing team in the NBA.
He commented on the darker aspects of the league, saying, “I think one of the dark sides of the NBA is when teams are losing on purpose to get higher draft picks.”
