The Los Angeles Lakers have waived two-way guard Blake Hinson, according to a report from NBA insider Michael Scotto.
Hinson joined the Lakers after going undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft and signing a two-way contract on July 5.
Despite his strong college resume, including being named first-team All-ACC during his final season at Pittsburgh, Hinson’s time with the Lakers was short-lived.
Scotto’s report revealed that Hinson’s shooting abilities, particularly from beyond the arc, had intrigued several teams following the draft.
At Pittsburgh, the 6-foot-8 guard averaged 18.5 points per game while shooting 42.1% from three-point range, setting a school record with 110 made threes in a single season.
Hinson’s journey to the NBA began at Ole Miss, where he started 31 games as a freshman, averaging 8.3 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.
After two seasons at Ole Miss, Hinson transferred to Iowa State but missed the entire season due to an unspecified medical condition.
He later transferred to Pittsburgh, where he revitalized his career, earning second-team All-ACC honors in his first season with the Panthers.
His final college season saw him average 18.5 points and 6.0 rebounds, which earned him first-team All-ACC recognition.
Hinson’s ability to stretch the floor with his shooting made him a notable prospect, but his NBA journey has now hit a pause after being waived by Los Angeles.
Despite his release, Hinson is expected to attract interest from other NBA teams in free agency, given his shooting prowess and size.
