Guerschon Yabusele appears to be in a more favorable situation with the Philadelphia 76ers than he would have been had he attempted a return to the Boston Celtics, according to Brian Robb of MassLive in a recent mailbag column.
Yabusele, who signed a one-year deal with the Sixers after an impressive performance with the French national team during the Olympics, faces competition for playing time as the backup power forward behind Caleb Martin.
His main challengers for minutes will be KJ Martin and rookie Ricky Council.
Robb also notes that Yabusele’s chances of rejoining the Celtics were likely diminished due to the team’s decision to secure new deals with backup big men Luke Kornet, Neemias Queta, and Xavier Tillman, leaving little room for additional frontcourt depth.
By joining the Sixers, Yabusele may find more opportunities to carve out a meaningful role, especially with his recent international success.
