Serbia had long been close to gold, finishing as runners-up in various international competitions, including the 2016 Olympics and the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
But in 2024, they finally secured a major victory, defeating reigning world champions Germany 93-83 to claim their first bronze as Serbia.
Despite concerns after a heartbreaking loss to the U.S. and an early 11:00 AM tip-off, Serbia responded perfectly.
Nikola Jokic led with a triple-double, while Bogdan Bogdanovic and Vasilije Micic provided crucial scoring. Serbia built a strong lead early and maintained control throughout, sealing their place on the podium in Paris.
Germany, aiming for a third consecutive medal, fell short despite strong performances from the Wagner brothers and Dennis Schroder.
With coach Gordon Herbert stepping down after the Olympics, Germany now faces a new chapter.
