Down by 17 points at one stage, the Americans rallied from an 11-point deficit entering the fourth quarter to secure victory. They outscored Serbia 32-15 in the final period to clinch the win.
Stephen Curry was the standout performer, scoring a game-high 36 points, including nine three-pointers. Joel Embiid contributed 19 points, while LeBron James added 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists. Kevin Durant played a crucial role with nine points.
Serbia was led by Bogdan Bogdanovic with 20 points, and Nikola Jokic added 17 points and 11 assists. Aleksa Avramovic scored 15 points for the Serbian side.
Durant was particularly impressed with Curry’s performance. “It was God talking through him tonight,” Durant said about Curry’s impact in the game.
Curry’s contributions were pivotal, especially in the first quarter, where he scored 17 of the team’s first 20 points.
Durant praised Curry’s energy and shooting, noting, “He had 17 in that first quarter, 17 of our first 20 points. His energy was high, he was turning around shooting the ball.”
The Phoenix Suns superstar highlighted the significance of Curry’s performance at a crucial moment. “It was just a regular Steph game. To have it right here, especially when we needed it, was special to see,” Durant added.
He likened Curry’s performance to a moment of divine inspiration. “It was God disguised as Michael Jordan conversation. That’s what it felt like tonight,” Durant said, reflecting on Curry’s exceptional display.
