EA7 Milano defeated Cedevita Zagreb 85-82 in their Euroleague Group B tie, but were eliminated from the regular season due to points differential.
The result put Cedevita’s record at 4-5 and Milan’s at 3-6, but because Cedevita had won by nine when the teams played in their first game in Italy, Cedevita claimed the tiebreaker that ensured it would finish among the top four teams in the group.
Robbie Hummel led Milan with 21 points and eight rebounds, Miro Bilan scored 23 points for Cedevita.
Milano’s exit sends coach Jasmin Repesa to the Eurocup whereas his old club from last season head into the Top 16.
Reigning Euroleague champions Real Madrid are still in the hunt for a Top 16 place in Group A after easing past Bayern Munich 86-67 in Germany.
Gustavo Ayon collected 22 points, nine rebounds, six steals and two blocks as Real move to 4-5.
“We got a great victory on a great court against a great team with a great coach playing a great Euroleague,” said Madrid coach Pablo Laso. “But that’s it. It’s the ninth game of the group. There’s one more game. We want to reach the Top 16. That means we need to win the next game.”
Khimki’s Top 16 progression from Group A though was confirmed after they beat Strasbourg 78-69.
Alexey Shved led the winners with 23 points. Tyler Honeycutt added 15 points and 19 rebounds, a new Euroleague season high and the best mark in the competition since 2011.
Strasbourg [3-6], who were led by Kyle Weems’ 14 points now have to beat Real Madrid in the Spanish capital to ensure qualification to the Top 16.
Fenerbahce have secured first place in Group A after beating Crvena Zvezda 79-61 in Istanbul.
Ekpe Udoh paced Fenerbahce with 13 points for the Turkish giants, who improve to 7-2. The Serbian side move to 4-5.
Panathinaikos have cruised into the Top 16 from Group C after they thrashed Stelmet Zielona Gora 82-51 in Athens.
Nick Calathes led the Greens with 18 points as they go to 5-4 in the group, which will be good enough for a top four finish.
CSKA Moscow breezed past Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul 94-66 in the Russian capital as they improve to 8-1 and head into a winner-takes-all clash with Unicaja Malaga next week in the final round of action.
Darussafaka stays in fourth place at 4-5 and stays and will now play Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv next week in a direct showdown for a spot in the Top 16. Darussafaka will reach the Top 16 with either a win or a loss up to 11 points.
