The NBA is considering an annual tournament or a new league in Europe, Adam Silver told Tim Reynolds of AP.
“We haven’t made any definitive decisions. There’s enormous opportunity here, but we won’t transform the league structure in the short term. However, our team owners are interested in global basketball investment,” said Silver.
According to Silver, the NBA has discussed expanding into Europe for decades, with current talks with FIBA being “much more serious” due to new media rights.
Any new competition would complement, not replace, the current European basketball setup.
“Whatever we do here, it’s important that it’s additive to the European basketball structure,” said Silver.
