Jalen Brunson signs $156.6M extension with Knicks

New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson has inked a monumental four-year, $156.6 million contract extension, starting from the 2025-26 NBA season. This extension follows Brunson’s previous four-year, $104 million deal with the Knicks.

According to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Brunson’s decision to opt for a shorter but still substantial contract is aimed at providing the Knicks with greater flexibility to strengthen their roster and contend for a championship.

The deal is a strategic move by Brunson, choosing financial flexibility over the potential for a higher single-year salary in 2025.

This extension includes a fourth-year player option, setting Brunson up for a possible four-year, $323 million extension in 2028 or a new five-year, $418 million deal in 2029.

Brunson’s standout performance last season earned him his first NBA All-Star selection. Despite the absence of star center Julius Randle, Brunson led the Knicks to the second round of the playoffs where they lost to the Indiana Pacers in seven games.

Throughout the regular season, Brunson averaged impressive stats of 28.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game in 35.4 minutes of play.

His performance soared during the playoffs, where he upped his averages to 32.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game in 39.8 minutes on the court.
