Anthony Edwards plans to forego the 2027 FIBA World Cup after leading Team USA at the 2023 tournament and focusing solely on the Olympics.
Last year, Edwards played a pivotal role for Team USA at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, where the team finished in a disappointing 4th place, marking a challenging experience he prefers not to repeat.
As part of Team USA’s roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Edwards confirmed his intention to prioritize the Olympics over the World Cup in subsequent years.
In discussing his decision, Edwards was clear about his preference: “What I did last year? Nah. But Olympics for sure,” he stated, as reported by Tim Bontemps.
The 2027 FIBA World Cup is scheduled to take place in Qatar from August 27 to September 12, marking the 20th edition of the prestigious tournament.
This upcoming event will be the first World Cup hosted in the Arab world, following previous editions in China (2019) and a joint-hosting by the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia (2023).
