Former Toronto Raptors center Jontay Porter is set to plead guilty to federal charges related to his involvement in an alleged sports gambling operation.
According to Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic, Porter faces a felony charge filed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.
Porter’s plea is expected on July 10, marking a significant development in the case involving a sports betting scheme.
The NBA previously banned Porter in April due to his role in compromising games for gambling purposes.
Porter allegedly manipulated his play to benefit bettors, influencing prop bets on his performance in specific NBA games.
The federal complaint outlines instances where Porter planned to exit games early, affecting betting outcomes.
Authorities claim bettors won substantial amounts, including an $80,000 parlay that netted $1.1 million.
