Cleveland, Ohio – This past Sunday, Geoff Warren, from Cleveland, Ohio, was inducted into the 2024 Class of the American Basketball Hall of Fame. Warren joins the ranks of NBA legends such as Larry Bird, Dave Bing, Phil Cherier, Campy Russell, and legendary former coaches from the likes of University of Cincinnati Bob Huggins, and Cleveland State University Kevin Mackey and others.
Warren’s basketball journey began at Cathedral Latin High School, where he was a three-year starter on the varsity team. His high school career was marked by remarkable achievements, including playing a pivotal role in the team that won the state AA title in 1977 and finishing as the runner-up for the state AA title in 1978 and 1979. During this period, the team amassed an impressive record of 67 wins and only 10 losses, while securing two Crown Conference championships, three district titles, and three regional titles.
In his senior year, Warren’s outstanding performance earned him the MVP award of the state tournament. In 1979, he was recognized as one of the best point guards in the country, alongside notable players such as Isiah Thomas, Dirk Minniefield, Ray McCoy, Sidney Lowe, and John Paxson. He also received pre-season honorable mention honors from Street & Smith Basketball All-American.
Following his high school success, Warren continued his basketball career at Kent State University. After his collegiate playing days, he transitioned into coaching, beginning at Cuyahoga Community College where he coached former NBA and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Ben Wallace. Warren’s coaching career also included positions at Wilberforce University and coaching stints with touring teams in Europe.
