The Boston Celtics, fresh off winning their 18th NBA championship, have announced a significant change in ownership.

Boston Basketball Partners L.L.C., the long-standing ownership group of the Celtics, has decided to sell all shares of the team. The decision comes after extensive internal deliberations for estate and family planning purposes.

The managing board of the ownership group plans to sell a majority interest in the team by 2024 or early 2025, with the final balance of shares to be transferred by 2028. Throughout this transition, Wyc Grousbeck is expected to continue as the Governor of the Celtics until the final closing in 2028.

This announcement marks a pivotal moment for the historic franchise, which has been under the stewardship of Boston Basketball Partners L.L.C. for several decades.

The Celtics, known for their rich legacy and passionate fanbase, achieved their most recent championship victory in 2024 under the current ownership.

As the team prepares for the next chapter under new ownership, loyal supporters and NBA enthusiasts alike await further developments and the impact on the organization’s future strategies.
