LeBron James is making efforts to lure Klay Thompson to the Los Angeles Lakers as the sharpshooter prepares to leave the Golden State Warriors.

NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski revealed that James reached out to Thompson immediately when free agency opened, attempting to persuade him to join the Lakers.

“I’m told LeBron James called Klay Thompson right when free agency opened…These conversations, this negotiation will go into tomorrow. There probably will not be a resolution tonight,” Wojnarowski said.

Thompson, who has spent 13 years with the Warriors and won four NBA championships, is now considering his options as he departs from Golden State.

The Warriors and Thompson have reportedly agreed on a sign-and-trade after failing to agree on a new contract.

James, who declined his player option to become an unrestricted free agent, is reportedly willing to take a pay cut if the Lakers manage to sign a star to a mid-level exception.

This past season, Thompson averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 29.7 minutes per game.

Other potential suitors for Thompson include the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Lakers are keen to add Thompson’s scoring ability and championship experience to their roster as they aim for another NBA title.

James’s efforts to bring Thompson to Los Angeles highlight the Lakers’ determination to build a strong team around their superstar.
