The Houston Rockets move towards trading for Kevin Durant by trading picks with the Brooklyn Nets.
Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Houston agreed to return Brooklyn’s 2026 first-round pick in exchange for Nets’ 2027 Phoenix Suns first-round pick.
The Rockets also acquired the right to swap their 2025 first-round pick with Oklahoma City’s for Phoenix’s first-round pick.
Additionally, Houston secured the more favorable of Dallas and Phoenix’s 2029 first-round pick and the right to swap their pick for the less favorable of Dallas and Phoenix’s first-round pick.
Houston relinquished the right to swap their 2025 first-round pick with Brooklyn’s, allowing the Nets to control their own pick as they rebuild.
Wojnarowski highlighted that this trade improves Houston’s chances of trading for Durant by returning the Suns’ their picks that had been traded to Brooklyn in the Durant trade.
Although the Suns plan to keep Durant for now, this could change next season, making the Rockets’ pick acquisition significant.
The Rockets’ aggressive move puts them in a prime position to make significant trades, either for Durant or other key players.
This trade enhances Houston’s flexibility and options for future deals, aligning with their goal of building a competitive roster.
