Doubt lingers among teams regarding the Philadelphia 76ers’ reported decision to bow out of the race for Paul George.

For months, it has been widely reported that George is the primary target for the 76ers this offseason.

However, recent reports suggest the Sixers are shifting their focus to other targets.

According to Marc Stein on Substack, there is skepticism among other teams about the Sixers cooling on George.

Stein wrote, “I am struggling to pinpoint third-party teams that put much stock in the recent leakage suggesting that the 76ers have cooled on the idea of pursuing George.”

Only the Sixers know their true intentions, but league sources are skeptical about Philadelphia bowing out completely until George has either re-signed with the Clippers or joined another team.

Most sources believe George prefers to re-sign with the Clippers, being a proud Southern California native.

However, the Clippers’ reluctance to extend George a deal richer or longer than Kawhi Leonard’s recent three-year, $150 million extension has put George’s future in flux.

This past season, the 34-year-old George averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 33.8 minutes per game.
