The Detroit Pistons have fired head coach Monty Williams after just one season, according to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

Williams, who had five years and over $65 million remaining on his contract, was dismissed following a dismal season.

The Pistons ended the season with the league’s worst record of 14 wins and 68 losses.

According to Wojnarowski, the decision to fire Williams now was made at the ownership level. Newly appointed President Trajan Langdon is now tasked with hiring a new coach to lead the team.

The decision to part ways with Williams, a two-time Coach of the Year, reflects the organization’s desire for a fresh start. Langdon aims to bring in a coach who aligns with his vision for the team’s future.
