UConn head coach Dan Hurley revealed that LeBron James reached out to him as he considered a major job offer from the Los Angeles Lakers.

Hurley shared this surprising detail during an interview with Colin Cowherd on The Herd, highlighting the unexpected support from the NBA superstar.

“We had some text messages. Incredible message from him over the course of the weekend, just talking about basketball and some different things and he let me know that if he was there in L.A. that I’d have his support. Just think about that, man. That blew my mind,” Hurley said.

Hurley described his astonishment at receiving a text message from James, noting that their exchange continued even after Hurley decided to decline the Lakers’ offer.

“Then we got into a text exchange and then the exchange even went through to when I chose to go to another direction. It blew my mind when I got a text message from LeBron James,” Hurley added.

Despite the enticing offer of a six-year, $70 million contract from the Lakers, Hurley chose to remain with the UConn Huskies.

The Lakers’ pursuit of a new head coach continues, with New Orleans Pelicans associate head coach James Borrego emerging as the current favorite.

Hurley’s decision to stay with UConn reflects his commitment to the program, despite the allure of coaching one of the NBA’s most storied franchises.
