The Los Angeles Lakers are intensifying their search for a new head coach by interviewing New Orleans Pelicans assistant coach James Borrego for the vacant position.

According to a report by Dan Woike, Borrego’s in-person interviews set to take place today mark a significant advancement in the Lakers’ coaching search process.

While former player JJ Redick remains a top contender for the job, the Lakers are expanding their options by considering multiple candidates for the coveted coaching role.

Should Redick secure the head coaching position, there are plans to assemble a formidable coaching staff, with Borrego potentially joining alongside notable assistants Sam Cassell from the Boston Celtics and Jared Dudley from the Dallas Mavericks.
