Greek Basket League round-up (week 7)

Apollon Patras- Arkadikos 56-76

Apollon Patras was in bad shape, missed lots of open shots and finally fell short to newcomers Arkadikos who got the upper hand from the opening quarter, when the score was 13-22. From then on, they just held on to the lead behind Ireland’s 18 points.

Aris- Kavala B.C. 68-50

Close start in the game with Aris and Kavala going toe to toe but the 2nd period found the home team having a 16-9 partial score and getting on the driver’s seat. The second half belonged to them, because when Kavala tried to cut the lead, defense adjustments from coach Dimitris Priftis, turned the tide towards their side. MVP was Waters with 15 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists.

Kolossos Rhodes- Lavrio G.S. 61-72

Great defense on the road from Lavrio, who managed to play consistent basketball from start to finish to get the win. They were in front at halftime 30-36 but after the restart, the home team managed to get the game close again. However they failed to find many offensive solutions towards the end, scored only 11 points while the visitors found some open shots, hit the open court and stormed past them. Kroubali was outstanding and dominated both paints with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 10 drawn fouls for Lavrio.

A.G.O.Rethimno- Trikala B.C. 83-79

The two teams were involved in a close game with some great plays and fast pace throughout. 41-42 was the halftime score and after the break, AGOR seemed to have more patience on offense, bringing momentum to their side and forcing Trikala to chase them during the last period. They did so without giving up, they reaced close to making the total comeback, but Giannopoulos was there for Rethimno with his 18 total points, to secure the win.

A.E.N.Kifissias- A.E.K. 54-78

Easy saturday evening for AEK since they got in the game strong, played very tight defense, allowed only 8 points in the first period and they forced Kifissia to chase them. They kept a good margin through the rest of the game and by the final period, the home team gave up on the match, scored only 9 points again, so AEK easily put the game to rest. Milocevic achieved a double-double with 20 points and 10 boards.

Olympiacos- Koroivos Amaliadas 83-64

After a big win against Cedevita on the road for Euroleague, Olympiacos returned at home to face Koroivos. Without putting up much effort, they dominated their opponents right from the tip-off. By halftime they were in front 44-29, clearing the way for an easy second half. Koroivos did not try hard to make a comeback mostly because the “Reds” remained focused as long as needed to end the game. Agravanis and Strawberry both added 13 points while Hunter had 12 combined with 11 rebounds.

-The game between Panathinaikos and P.A.O.K. was postponed because 8 players from the visitors suffered gastroenteritis.
