Kyrie Irving loves Anthony Edwards’ “no fear mentality”

After Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, Kyrie Irving shared his admiration for Anthony Edwards’ competitive spirit, stating, “That no fear mentality he has is why I love him as a competitor.”

Irving revealed that Edwards’ comment about guarding him served as motivation, emphasizing the excitement of facing such matchups.

“As a peer, I love that. It’s nothing better,” Irving said, via Michael Scotto. “When Ant was a little younger, I’m sure he was watching me. When he was in high school, I was watching him. It’s more of those exciting matchups that I look forward to.

“Right after the game (Game 7 against the Nuggets) it was funny because he said it (about guarding Kyrie). I think the whole world was looking like, ‘Ok, you better know what you’re talking about, Ant.’ I respect that, and that no fear mentality that he has is why I love him as a competitor and I love him as a person.

“When we are on the court, I know he’s going to give it his all, I’ll give my all, and at the end of the game, it’s all love. When we’re in between those lines, he knows what it is and I know what it is.”

The duo of Luka Doncic and Irving propelled the Dallas Mavericks to a Game 1 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals.

Irving contributed 30 points, with 24 coming in the first half, setting the tone for the Mavericks’ strong start.

As the series progresses, the battle between Irving and Edwards promises to be a compelling storyline, adding an extra layer of excitement to the Western Conference Finals.
