Former NBA forward Rudy Gay once signed a three-year, $40 million contract extension with the Sacramento Kings thinking that head coach Michael Malone would stick around. However, Malone was fired not even a month later (Gay signed the extension on November 19th, 2014/Malone got fired by December 15th, 2014).

(via 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony & The Kid Mero):

“Coach Malone, which is one of my favorite coaches. That’s my man, he tried his hardest, man. But that organization wasn’t… I’m happy they got there, but, man. The thing about it is with the contract that I signed… I re-upped with them. I re-upped on the premise that Mike Malone was gonna be there, I ain’t never told nobody this. Bro, I signed a contract… Two days later, they fired him.”
