Tyrese Haliburton: “I never went through a slump like this in my life”

Here’s Indiana Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton discussing his recent stretch of inconsistent games following Monday’s 108-103 home loss vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers (14 points/6 rebounds/12 assists/1 steal/1 block/4-14 FG/1-9 3-PT/5-5 FT/3 turnovers/5 fouls/-7 +/-).

Reporter: “Obviously, you hold yourself to a super high standard. I would imagine you’d probably want to play better these last few games, but how much do you look internal when it comes to these types of things? And also at the totality of just overall team performance?”

Haliburton: “I play better, we win, so I’m just trying to figure it out right now. Obviously it’s frustrating, I never went through a slump like this in my life. But it’s all part of it, figuring it out. It sucks, everybody’s got the answer, but it’s about me figuring it out. So I just gotta be better, and I will be better moving forward. And if I’m not, we got other people who will be prepared to do it. But I gotta be better, that’s on me. I played 32 minutes, more than enough time to do what I do. I just gotta be better, point-blank.”

Reporter: “To follow-up, what do you think led to maybe some of the stagnancy on offense? It seemed like the space was a little bit off on possessions throughout the game, which is super uncharacteristic for you all, because you all moved it a lot.”

Haliburton: “I think it just stems from me getting guys in the right positions, right spots, getting the right shots at the end of the games, just me doing a better job. I think it starts with me, and then it kind of trickles down from there. So, I just gotta be better.”
