Chandler Parsons on Luka Doncic: “As a teammate, it’s a little exhausting watching the same s*** over and over again”

Former NBA player Chandler Parsons has some advice for Luka Doncic, suggesting that the Dallas Mavericks star needs to adapt his game for team success.

Parsons highlighted Doncic’s incredible talent but expressed concerns about the predictability of his playing style and its impact on teammates.

“I think [Luka Doncic] is an unbelievable talent, he’s literally a guard version of [Nikola] Jokic, where he can do anything,” Parsons said on FanDuelTV’s Run It Back.

“He’s mesmerizing with the basketball. But as a teammate, it’s a little exhausting watching the same s*** over and over again. And then when you don’t win, it’s even magnified like, ok, can we try something else, maybe I can get the ball? It definitely can be frustrating.”

Parsons also noted that the Mavericks have built a deep roster around Doncic this season and that the Slovenian superstar needs to utilize it.

“He’s got help this year,” Parsons continued. “This is the best team that he’s been on. They got 8, 9, 10 deep. He’s got the team. Use them. Take the most shots, play them most minutes, have the most assists, your triple-doubles. Do what Jokic does, but find a way to do it to keep everybody happy and to win games. That’s the biggest thing.

“He’s going to put up stats no matter who’s his teammate, no matter what team he’s on. He’s going to average 30 [points], he’s going to average 10 [assists], he’s going to average six or seven rebounds, whatever. He’s going to get his numbers. To be able to do that and win at the same time is when Luka Doncic will take the next step.”

This season Doncic is the league’s top scorer with 34.7 points per game. He is also averaging 9 points and 9.8 assists in 37.6 minutes per game.

But despite his numbers and having a superstar teammate Kyrie Irving, the Mavericks are sitting in eighth place in the Western Conference with 36 wins and 28 losses instead of competing for the top spots.
