As Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas heads into the final year of his contract, speculation arises that the team may not offer him an extension, with potential plans to leverage him as a trade asset.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Thomas’s role has been inconsistent under former head coach Jacque Vaughn, raising doubts about a contract extension.

While Thomas has shown promise, averaging 21.2 points per game this season, his future with the Nets remains uncertain.

“In the summer, he’ll be eligible for a contract extension. I don’t think it’s going to get done,” Scotto said on The HoopsHype Podcast.. “I think Thomas is a guy the Nets could potentially include in a trade if it’s worthwhile for them. I don’t know if they’re going to make an aggressive push to get a contract extension done. I’m sure there will be talks, and I’ll circle back on this months from now when it’s eligible, but my gut tells me this won’t get done.”

With one year remaining on his current deal, Thomas is set to earn $4 million next season, making him an intriguing prospect for potential suitors.

At just 22 years old, Thomas has displayed scoring prowess, positioning himself as a valuable asset for the Nets or potential trade partners.
