Kazys Maksvytis: Matas Buzelis set to join Lithuania national team this year

Highly touted prospect Matas Buzelis is poised to make his mark on the international stage as he prepares to join the Lithuania national basketball team this year.

Despite a slight dip in his draft stock, Buzelis remains a top talent and is expected to be a top 10 pick in the upcoming NBA draft.

During a recent visit to the United States, Lithuania’s national team head coach, Kazys Maksvytis, met with Buzelis, along with NBA stars Domantas Sabonis and Jonas Valanciunas.

Maksvytis expressed confidence in Buzelis’ readiness to represent Lithuania, stating that the young prospect is prepared to join the national team this summer, pending any unforeseen obstacles.

The opportunity to compete for Lithuania holds significant importance for Buzelis, who has deep roots in the country despite being born in Chicago to Lithuanian parents.

Both of Buzelis’ parents enjoyed professional basketball careers in Lithuania before immigrating to the United States.

Currently honing his skills with the G League Ignite, Buzelis is averaging 12.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 30.3 minutes per game.

As Lithuania gears up for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Puerto Rico, Buzelis stands ready to contribute to his homeland’s quest for a fifth Olympic appearance.
