As the NBA trade deadline looms, the Dallas Mavericks are on the verge of bolstering their roster with the acquisition of Daniel Gafford from the Washington Wizards, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Wojnarowski’s tweet revealed the imminent deal: “The Washington Wizards are nearing a deal to send Daniel Gafford to the Dallas Mavericks for Richaun Holmes and draft compensation, sources tell ESPN.”

Gafford, a 25-year-old center, is set to join the Mavericks in exchange for Richaun Holmes and draft picks. Gafford, currently in the first year of a lucrative three-year, $40 million contract, brings versatility and athleticism to Dallas.

This season, Gafford is averaging 10.9 points, 8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 26.5 minutes per game for the Wizards.

In return, the Wizards receive Holmes, a 30-year-old center, along with draft compensation. Holmes is averaging 3.4 points and 3.4 rebounds in limited minutes this season.

Holmes holds a player option for next season valued at $12.9 million, providing flexibility for the Wizards as they navigate their roster and future salary cap considerations.
