The Dallas Mavericks and Charlotte Hornets have engaged in discussions about a potential trade involving P.J. Washington heading to Dallas. The Mavericks shifted their focus to Washington after facing obstacles in trade negotiations for Kyle Kuzma from the Washington Wizards.

Dallas has shown a proactive approach to strengthening their frontcourt, particularly targeting players capable of playing the power forward position. The Mavs’ earlier sign-and-trade for Grant Williams in the offseason did not yield the expected results.

P.J. Washington, currently in the first year of his three-year, $46.5 million contract extension with Charlotte, signed this past summer. The 25-year-old power forward’s contract is valued at $16.8 million for the current season, with a gradual decline in subsequent years, reaching $14.2 million by the 2025-26 season.
