Greek Basket League round-up (week 2)

Panathinaikos- Olympiacos 73-69

The start of the new season brought Panathinaikos and Olympiacos head to head for the second time in two weeks, this time for the Greek Championship. The Reds  got in the game stronger, found the target in some free 3-pointers (5/5 after 6′) forcing their opponent’s defense to mark them closely. Yet again they managed to find many open ways to the rim, getting a big 18-32 lead. The home team desperately tried to react but after 8 minutes in the second period, the margin remained mostly in double digits. However the last two minutes of the half time were a nightmare for the visitors as they committed a series of turnovers, allowing Panathinaikos to get in the locker rooms trailing only by two points, 41-43.

The momentum had clearly shifted and it was time for the Greens to take over. Spanoulis was in a bad shape, Olympiacos made 1/15 three pointers after their hot start, and as a result Panathinaikos slowly chewed up the difference, achieving to get in front 56-55 after 3 periods. Antonis Fotsis stepped up and hit a big three 5 minutes before the end to give his team a 64-57 head up. Olympiacos was unable to react and when they reached the point difference to 2, it was already too late since Feldaine made both free throws next to ‘seal the deal’ for his side. MVP of the match was Feldaine with 12 points while Fotsis and Raduljica both added 11. For the defeated team, Printezis and PapapetroU had 13 points.
