Gilbert Arenas applauds Bryce James: “He might be the smartest one out of them”

Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas recently shared his insights on LeBron James’ basketball progeny, Bronny and Bryce, during a compelling discussion on Podcast P with Paul George.

Recalling a conversation with LeBron, Arenas revealed the King’s curiosity, urging him to assess the skills of young Bronny.

In evaluating Bronny’s abilities, Arenas observed a remarkable parity in speed, passing acumen, and basketball IQ between father and son.

“He probably jumps a little bit higher, probably a little bit stronger. He can definitely shoot better and dribble better than you,” Arenas remarked, recounting the candid exchange with LeBron.

However, the seasoned player highlighted a potential obstacle for Bronny – the inclination to play “the right way”. Arenas expressed concern that Bronny’s commitment to trusting teammates might hinder him from unleashing his full potential.

“He follows rules. He doesn’t want to jaywalk… When it’s time to just say ‘Man, forget the rest of these players, I got to go put the work in,’ he’s still going to believe in his teammates when sometimes you can’t,” noted Arenas.

Shifting focus to Bryce, the younger James sibling left an indelible impression on Arenas during their coaching sessions. The former NBA star was quick to commend Bryce’s exceptional intelligence, surpassing even that of his illustrious father and older brother.

“I used to work them both out,” Arenas said. “Bryce was too young for my workouts. So I had to be careful with him. Very intelligent too. We’ll do pick and roll splits and I’mma just mix it up and no matter what we did to Bryce, he react it perfect every single time.

“He might have lost the ball, but you can see the concept of he knew what he wanted to do from there. It was just perfecting his dribbling skills. But he probably might be the smartest one out of them.”
