Jordan Hawkins ignites Pelicans to win over Mavericks with career-high 34 points

In a game featuring depleted lineups for both teams, rookie Jordan Hawkins stole the spotlight, scoring a career-high 34 points to guide the New Orleans Pelicans (24-16) to a 118-108 victory over the Dallas Mavericks (23-17).

Hawkins, making his 11th start, showcased his scoring prowess, sinking six 3-pointers.

The well-rounded Pelicans had seven players in double figures, with Herb Jones contributing 15 points, and Jonas Valanciunas recording a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Valanciunas also showcased his playmaking skills, leading the team with seven assists after a demanding back-to-back schedule.

For the Mavericks, Kyrie Irving led the scoring with 33 points, while Tim Hardaway Jr. and Derrick Jones Jr. added 24 points each. However, the Mavericks struggled to find a consistent rhythm against a determined Pelicans squad.

The absence of key players impacted both teams, with Luka Doncic missing his second consecutive game due to an ankle sprain for the Mavericks.

On the Pelicans’ side, Zion Williamson (rest), Brandon Ingram (Achilles), and CJ McCollum (ankle) were sidelined, along with top reserve Trey Murphy III (knee).
