Jason Kidd reflects on Mavericks’ disappointing loss to Grizzlies

In a game marred by injuries on both sides, the Dallas Mavericks (22-16) suffered a 120-103 defeat against the Memphis Grizzlies (14-23) on Tuesday night, with Desmond Bane spearheading the Grizzlies’ charge in the absence of Ja Morant.

Despite missing key players like Marcus Smart and Jaren Jackson Jr., the Grizzlies showcased resilience, extending their winning streak to 2-0 post-Morant’s season-ending shoulder injury.

Facing a Memphis team dealing with its own injury challenges, the Mavericks grappled with the absence of key players. Luka Doncic, in and out of the game due to an ankle injury, managed to contribute 31 points, but Kyrie Irving’s 33 points couldn’t propel the Mavericks past the determined Grizzlies.

Addressing the disappointing loss in a postgame press conference, Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd expressed frustration with the team’s energy level.

“Energy was flat. We tried everybody. We just couldn’t find any energy. We got it to [nine points] tonight. I think we started to get a little energy and then it blew back up to 16 quickly. The energy from the start, we kind of walked into this, and they hit us, and we just could never respond,” Kidd commented, as reported by Grant Afseth.
