Senegal outplay Cameroon to claim AfroBasket Women’s title and a spot in Rio

Senegal have won their first Afrobasket Women’s title since 2009 after outclassing tournament hosts Cameroon 81-66 in Yaounde.

Their 11th continental title win earns them a birth at next year’s Rio Olympics, joining USA, Serbia, Brazil, Australia, Canada and Japan.

Aya Traore led the victors with 16 points as she claimed tournament MVP honours.

Ramses Lonlack was the only Cameroonian in double figures with 14 as they join third placed Nigeria in the Olympic Qualifiers.

With this loss, Cameroon became the fifth straight host nation to lose an Afrobasket Women’s final.
