Former NBA player Darius Miles, once the highest high school draft pick at No. 3 in 2000, dodged a prison sentence after pleading guilty to involvement in an NBA health-care fraud scheme targeting the league’s insurance plan, as reported by Chris Dolmetsch of Bloomberg.

Miles, a prominent figure from the Los Angeles Clippers, faced potential imprisonment of around two years but was granted three years’ probation on Monday by US District Judge Valerie Caproni in Manhattan.

The 42-year-old’s legal journey sheds light on the challenges athletes may face post-career, bringing attention to issues within the NBA’s health care system.
