Hawks extend winning streak as Zion Williamson’s 25 points fall short against Atlanta

Despite a strong offensive showing from Zion Williamson with 25 points and Brandon Ingram’s 16 points, the New Orleans Pelicans couldn’t contain the surging Atlanta Hawks, who secured a 123-105 victory on Saturday night, extending their winning streak to four games behind Trae Young’s impressive performance of 22 points and 12 assists.

Jalen Johnson’s 21 points and 11 rebounds, along with Dejounte Murray’s 20 points, further bolstered the Hawks’ dominant display, as they overcame a 10-point deficit early in the second half, launching a formidable 30-10 run that shifted the momentum firmly in their favor.

New Orleans’ hopes for a victory were buoyed by the return of Williamson and Ingram to the lineup, with Williamson’s standout windmill dunk in the first half serving as a highlight of the Pelicans’ efforts. Additionally, rookie Jordan Hawkins made a significant contribution with four 3-pointers and a career-high 15 points.

The Pelicans initially held a 63-53 advantage following Williamson’s driving layup early in the third quarter, but were quickly thwarted by the relentless offensive surge from the Hawks, led by Young’s driving floater and a series of crucial 3-pointers from Johnson, Murray, Hunter, and Young.

Although Hawkins attempted to reignite New Orleans’ offense with back-to-back 3-pointers, the Pelicans faced difficulties closing the gap, as the Hawks maintained their offensive momentum and defensive prowess.

Clint Capella’s 17 points, alongside solid contributions from CJ McCollum and Herb Jones, secured the victory for the Hawks, leaving the Pelicans unable to catch up in the latter stages of the game.
