As Austin Reaves faced a pivotal decision in his NBA career during the recent offseason, Lakers stars Anthony Davis and D’Angelo Russell played a significant role in guiding him through the process.

With Reaves being a restricted free agent, there was considerable interest from other teams, notably the Spurs and Rockets, potentially complicating matters for the Lakers due to salary cap constraints.

However, the Purple and Gold swiftly extended a substantial offer, presenting Reaves with a four-year, $53.8 million contract. Rather than testing the market, Reaves trusted his connections within the Lakers team.

In an interview with Mirin Fader of The Ringer, Reaves disclosed the key role Davis and Russell played in his decision-making process.

“We had a very good feeling that L.A. was going to offer the [max] right away, and I asked [Russell and Davis] if I should take that or if I should wait,” Reaves shared.

With an eye on maintaining the strong relationships and mutual understanding he shares with his teammates, Reaves emphasized the comfort and support he finds within the Lakers organization.

“I know what I’m going to get being here,” he affirmed. “And I know who I’m playing with and how they elevate me and make me a better player. The system fit perfectly.”
