Two of the NBA’s brightest young prospects, Chet Holmgren and Victor Wembanyama, squared off in a preseason showdown between the Thunder and Spurs, with Oklahoma City edging out a 122-121 victory.
Holmgren scored a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds in just 16 minutes of play. Meanwhile, 19-year-old Victor Wembanyama contributed 20 points and five rebounds in 19 minutes on the court.
Before the game, Wembanyama had high praise for Holmgren, recognizing him as one of the standout talents of their generation.
“Chet Holmgren, he’s a really good player. I played against him once, a couple of years back. He’s part of the great players of this generation,” Wembanyama remarked.
This matchup between Holmgren and Wembanyama offered a glimpse into the future of the NBA, with both players destined to become key figures in the league.
It’s worth noting that these two talented young men previously crossed paths at the 2021 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup in Latvia.
Their teams clashed in the final, where the United States narrowly defeated France 83-81. Holmgren’s exceptional performance earned him the tournament’s MVP honors.
