Celtics icon Paul Pierce, who secured an NBA championship during his storied career with Boston, recently weighed in on the differences between his championship squad and the current Celtics, led by Jayson Tatum.

Pierce remarked, “I really didn’t have the same route that he’s been through…Our [Celtics] team was put together, and we won instantly. They’re going the traditional route, where you have your bumps in the road, and you figure it out.”

While Pierce’s Celtics enjoyed immediate success, claiming a championship shortly after forming their star-studded roster, today’s Celtics, anchored by Tatum and Jaylen Brown, have taken a more conventional path, encountering challenges and learning experiences along the way.

Under Tatum’s leadership, the Celtics have reached the NBA Finals once in 2022 and advanced to the Conference Finals on two occasions in 2020 and 2023.
