Croatia shot 37 percent from the field and turned the ball over an unforgivable 25 times, allowing the Czechs to score 36 points off those giveaways.

SERBIA HEAD TO LAST EIGHT

Serbia progressed to the last eight after a 94-81 win over a proud Finland side.

The Serbs’ depth told as their bench gave them 62 points to Finland’s 24 and Serbia also dished out 30 assists to Finland’s 13 as they pulled away late in the third quarter for the win and now they face Czech Republic in the last eight on Wednesday.

Miroslav Raduljica led the way with 27 points for Serbia. Nemanja Bjelica posted 19 points and 14 rebounds. Sasu Salin led Finland with 26 points.

ITALY USE DEFENCE TO TURN OVER ISRAEL

Italy had no trouble in getting past Israel 82-52 in the penultimate game of the second round in Lille.

Despite leading 40-30 at the half, Italy lost Andrea Bargnani to a reported calf injury late in the second period and thus they needed a solid start to the third quarter to maintain the upper hand.

They got more than that, however, increasing the defensive pressure to force Israel into four early turnovers and create a 19-4 run to take control and crush Israel’s resolve.

Alesandro Gentile led the Azzurri with 27 points.

MACIULIS RESCUES LITHUANIA AGAINST GEORGIA

Lithuania came alive in the last three minutes to beat a well drilled Georgia side 85-81 in the final game of the Eurobasket second round in Lille.

Real Madrid’s Jonas Maciulis scored the final five of his game-high 34 points in the final 10 seconds as he spared the 2013 Eurobasket silver-medallists blushes against a Georgia side that led the Baltic giants for 24 minutes and 15 seconds overall.

Zaza Pachulia paced Georgia in vain with 23 points.
