After an outstanding display in the 2023 FIBA U18 European Championship Division B, Roberts Blums has officially joined VEF Riga.

The 17-year-old has inked a two-year contract with an option for an extra season, as announced by the team on Friday.

In a noteworthy connection, he is now part of the same organization where his father, Janis Blums, serves as the chairman of the council.

Janis transitioned into a front-office role at the Latvian club shortly after concluding his playing career.

Roberts, a promising swingman, showcased his skills by averaging 20.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 1.3 assists per game for Latvia during the U18 tournament in Portugal from July 21 to 30.

His stellar performance led Latvia to gold medals and an unbeaten seven-game streak, earning him the tournament’s MVP title.

Notably, he had previously gained international experience by competing in the 2021 U16 FIBA European Challengers.
