In his inaugural interview upon arriving in Europe, Kemba Walker mentioned that his friend and former UConn Huskies teammate, Shabazz Napier, who ventured into the EuroLeague with Milano and is now with Crvena Zvezda, spoke highly of the competition.

Nevertheless, Walker’s decision to join AS Monaco was influenced by more than just Napier.

“Two of my friends, Edgar Sosa and James Feldeine, two guys who played in the EuroLeague once upon a time. They had nothing but great things to say about it,” Walker explained by referring respectively to the former Dinamo Sassari and former Panathinaikos and Crvena Zvezda players.

“They were other influences for me to really accept it. I know how good of a league it is, everything doesn’t have to be the NBA. EuroLeague is one of the best basketball leagues in the world, I’m happy to be here.

“I’ve been having a great time thus far. It’s definitely different, but it’s a beautiful place to be and I’m happy to be able to experience it. This is something really cool. I had my experiences in the NBA, so for me to experience that and be able to experience this, I appreciate it.”
