As the Hornets gear up for the impending training camp, a cloud of uncertainty hovers over the future of Kai Jones with the team, Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer reports.

The 22-year-old power forward has been conspicuously absent from the players’ optional sessions, raising questions about his status for the start of training camp next week.

Jones has also stirred intrigue with some enigmatic social media posts in recent weeks, including one where he boldly claimed to be better than legendary NBA figures Shaquille O’Neal and LeBron James.

Another viral Instagram video left viewers baffled as Jones was seen sweating profusely while his words remained indecipherable.

Addressing these developments at a preseason media luncheon, Hornets coach Steve Clifford chose to keep the team’s response internal.

“We are aware of the social media posts, and it’s a situation that’s been handled internally,” Clifford stated, declining to elaborate further.

The No. 19 pick of the 2021 NBA Draft averaged 3.4 points and 2.7 rebounds in 12 minutes per game during his sophomore year last season.
