Adrian Wojnarowski gives update on Trey Murphy’s meniscus injury

NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski has shed light on the status of Trey Murphy’s meniscus injury, a concerning setback for the New Orleans Pelicans.

During a recent workout session, Murphy sustained a meniscus injury in his left knee, casting a shadow over his upcoming season.

Wojnarowski shared his perspective on the severity of Murphy’s injury during a segment on NBA Today. He disclosed, “There’s certainly significant concern. You start with the kind of player Trey Murphy III is. Had an outstanding second season in the NBA, and I think Zach Lowe said it last year – this is potentially a future All-Star in this league.

“I’m told there’s at least a slight tear in that meniscus, and now he’s going to undergo further evaluation to see what kind of procedure would be necessary.”

The evaluation process will determine the most appropriate course of action. A full meniscus repair could entail several months of recovery, while a less invasive procedure, involving the trimming of the meniscus, might expedite Murphy’s return to the court, possibly even by the start of the season.

“If you do a full repair on a meniscus – that’s at least a few months. There’s also a scenario where they snip that meniscus and he could be back much much sooner, even by around the start of the season. So that evaluation is going on right now with Trey Murphy. We will expect to know more this week,” Woj said.

Trey Murphy, aged 23, had showcased immense promise in his sophomore year, boasting impressive averages of 14.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game.
