In their last Classification Round matchup at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, they emerged victorious against Iran, prevailing with a score of 81-73.

This marked a historic achievement for Lebanon, as it was the first time they had secured back-to-back wins in the World Cup. Their previous triumph against Cote d’Ivoire had already set a positive tone for their World Cup journey.

The game commenced with veteran player Ali Haidar leading the charge for Lebanon, helping them establish an early 12-4 lead in the first quarter.

Lebanon maintained this advantage throughout the game, fending off all attempts by Iran to bridge the point gap.

As the match progressed, the Cedars responded admirably, ultimately extending their lead to 19 points by the middle of the fourth quarter.

Although Iran made a final surge in the closing minutes, Lebanon’s lead proved insurmountable.

Wael Arakji was a standout performer for Lebanon, contributing significantly with 21 points, achieved through impressive shooting accuracy (6-of-9 field goals and 8-of-9 free throws).

In addition to his scoring prowess, he showcased his playmaking abilities with 7 assists and grabbed 3 rebounds, demonstrating an exceptional performance.

Combining their efforts, Ali Haidar and Wael Arakji combined to amass 41 points, effectively leading the Cedars to victory. Omari Spellman also made a valuable contribution with 9 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks.

On the other side, Mohammad Mamini led the scoring for Iran, amassing a total of 22 points.
