A rising Western Conference power is reportedly setting their signing plans for the soon-to-be free-agent JaVale McGee.

According to Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes, the Sacramento Kings desire to pursue the veteran big man once he clears waivers with the Dallas Mavericks.

The Mavericks have officially announced that they will release McGee as the waivers will be cleared in about 48 hours, turning him into an unrestricted asset on Thursday.

McGee signed with Dallas last year on a reported three-year deal worth $17MM, but he couldn’t grasp plenty of playing time from coach Jason Kidd upon suiting up for just 42 games while averaging a career-worst 4.4 points and 2.5 boards.

The Kings have 15 standard contracts and can still field more signings heading to the training camp. Earlier this offseason, the club already composed Alex Len, Neemias Queta, and Nerlens Noel as integrated backup centers for Lithuanian star big man Domantas Sabonis.

Should Sacramento taps him, the 35-year-old will instantly battle for a roster spot and on the right to become the main supporting big for Sabonis.

The Kings’ reported interest in McGee might also be connected to the big man’s significant connection with coach Mike Brown. Brown and the center won back-to-back championships with the Golden State Warriors in 2017 and 2018.
